I Can't Talk, I'm Doing Hot Girl Shit
What is, "hot girl shit"? Is it Instagram? Is it TikTok? Are those already outdated?
Comrades! We've made it to the end of 2020!
And I've been blogging for a year! To be honest, my first post was in September '19, but I completely missed that. Time is an arbitrary human construct, anyway, so let's celebrate.
Happy congratuversary to us all! Thank you for your readership and feedback.
I'm going to go ahead and say that tarot is totally my hot girl shit, and since we're all dying to see what kind of new improved dumpster fire 2021 is going to be, here's an overview for the year!
I want to start this by saying, "THERE IS ONLY ONE CUP CARD!" 2020 was emotional enough, and this is a very good omen, as far as I'm concerned.
We are seeing a lot of wands for the coming year. This means creating. Building. Working. The pentacles that I'm seeing are cautionary; telling us to be frugal with both our money and energies. A sprinkle of swords tells me that there will be some very important opportunities for communication and putting ideas into action. Only two major arcana cards? One at the start of the year, and one halfway through. This tells me that there will be an important shift in the focus for the last half of 2021.
January's card: Inverted Hanged One
Well, it looks like this year's theme is "perspective", and January comes in to tell us all to stop and adjust our view. 2020 was a doozie. We started all bright eyed and ready to own the year, and by Mid-March, we felt the stinging slap of a reality nobody anticipated. Many people have spent a substantial amount of the year just doing what they could to get by. I think it's safe to imagine that many are walking into 2021 with a dim view on things, justifiably so. However, we all know that letting go is key to moving ahead. The more we carry forward, the less we can pick up along the way on this new section on the path. Let's leave 2020 behind. It was a crappy year for everyone - to varying degrees - but "hard is hard". Making a conscious effort to shift perspective heading into 2021 will show you something new; though this card makes me think that we'll be thrown into shifting our perspectives...so hold onto your butts. Goal setting is a good idea here; remember that life starts where comfort ends.
February's card: King of Wands
After spending January standing on our heads, our new outlook shows us a new opportunity! And of course, we're all super masterful and ready to take the task head on; and crush it. Setting those January goals will have us all moving along really confidently towards them. The work needs to be done, but we are poised and ready to grind. February is going to be full of fire and determination. Work on manifesting throughout the month.
March's card: Four of Wands
The first three months of this year are going to be really constructive. March brings us harmony and celebration. Things are feeling good after the burst of energy in February, and we may all be feeling nostalgic at what we were facing exactly a month ago. March brings us much needed stability, and the opportunity to relax and enjoy ourselves. Keep vigilant for the things worth celebrating; even on hard days, there is something to uncover. Work on self care and relaxation is big here. The hard work will feel even more rewarding as we make sure to enjoy ourselves and move into spring.
April's card: Inverted Ten of Swords
April comes at us with a very important message: Release. March had us feeling so good, that we may be taking on more than we should be carrying...or perhaps we've opened ourselves up enough to confront some trauma we've been keeping quiet for the sake of surviving. Moving into spring is the perfect time to release fear. It's time to renew our faith in ourselves and recognize that we are able to work over, around, or through our obstacles. It's a time to embrace the change in ourselves. April affords us an opportunity to get some good shadow work done. Read Jung. Get a black mirror. Start searching your dark side.
May's card: Nine of Cups
Oh, it's the motherfucking wish card!!! This is really the only good cup to pull, in my opinion. May is bringing us some serious happiness! If we've done that shadow work from April, we could be feeling such great self satisfaction, that we're just elated! This is a wonderful sign; a strong cue to practice gratitude for all the things that we have. We should eat well, drink well, and indulge! All the while, being grateful for being able to do so. Remember that the energy you put forth is returned. Don't gloat, don't be miserly with what you have, Give and get. If you don't do so already, starting a gratitude journal is a great way to hold onto the magical happiness this month brings us...because it won't always be raining dildos, my friends.
June's card: Two of Pentacles
I want to take a moment to appreciate the way tarot cards flow into one another. A perfect example here, is that June comes in and reminds us to apply balance to our days. We are going to get busy. There will be things to juggle; and we're going to have to pay close attention to how we're managing. Are we juggling too much? Are we indulging more than we should, and ignoring something we need to address? Is there an area of our lives that we don't balance well? We need to be ready to juggle things around this month in order to keep our balls in the air. Practice a mantra about asking for help this month. Reaching out for an extra hand or two will ease the burden of keeping everything off the ground!
July's card: Inverted Hermit
Well, we couldn't expect it all to roll along without a single thorn, right? And so, we see the shift here. We move to a more introspective focus. In July, we are being called by our inner voice. June was busy, and we may have neglected ourselves. Working hard to balance our lives may have caused us to stop listening to our own inner voice. Spoiler alert: we're gonna need our voices in August, so make sure that in July, we go within to reconnect with ourselves. This month's task? Meditation! Download an app for help (I like Calm). Take 10-15 minutes a day (or when you can), and let yourself go blank.
August's card: Ace of Swords
After July's consistent meditation, we are mentally refreshed in August. Things look clearer, we are sharper. This month's focus is on new ideas, and starting new endeavors. Communication is tremendously important when we're making efforts to start something new, and our words are best selected carefully. While we may be full of energy and excitement at a new challenge, it's important to remember that it won't be without bumps in the road, so that energy needs to be channeled constructively. It's a good month to explore ideas with others; debate is a great way to avoid confirmation bias, and to gain knowledge from alternative perspectives.
September's card: Six of Pentacles
Summer is coming to an end. We are feeling fulfilled from growth and abundance. As we come into the season of harvest, we are shown an opportunity to provide support to others. Whether it be in a financial manner, or in some other less tangible means, we are given a chance to empower someone else in a way that will offer them long term resilience, and not simply a short term band aid effort to alleviate their stress. In the same way that we were not weak in June when we asked for help, neither is someone who needs our support, now. Another perfect month to return to our gratitude journals, if we've come away from that activity. "Pay it forward" is a good mindset to practice this month.
October's card: Inverted Seven of Wands
And so, after September's streak of giving, we are finding ourselves a little overwhelmed. We're tired, and we need to recognize that. We can't be everything to everyone, so we need to work on giving back to ourselves. In times like these, it's easy to perceive that we are being criticized by others. It is important to remember that this is 1) most likely not true, and 2) definitely does not matter. We tend to project our own crap outward, and humans have a tendency to think that everyone thinks the same negative things about us that we do. The truth is that it isn't true. We genuinely are our own worst critics. In October, take the time to work on some affirmations for self confidence, and if needed, take some time for ourselves to recharge and rebuild the energy we expended in September.
November's card: Inverted Knight of Pentacles
Oh hey, are we still feeling a little self critical after October's fragile confidence? Completely possible. Are we getting down on ourselves for it? Also completely possible. Do we have some goals that we're wanting to achieve, but things are feeling a little insurmountable? As we approach the end of the year, our inner perfectionist might be coming out and picking apart things we haven't gotten done. It would be beneficial to put those expectations aside, and instead, work on establishing a new routine or create new habits that will empower us by bringing those goals back into focus. Remember that no path is a straight one; there is plenty of up and down and back and forth and left and right. Making daily to-do lists and crossing items off as they get done can definitely help us feel more "on task".
December's card: Inverted Ten of Wands
Ahhhh, winter. Crisp snow, cold days, Yule, shaky self-esteem...
Wait - no, one of those is not exactly what we associate with December; but this year, something is going to have us second guessing ourselves. Maybe we're overwhelmed with what we have going on. Maybe we've relaxed our boundaries out of comfort or conflict avoidance, and now we're feeling the fallout. Maybe we're just plain not having the best confidence days. Whatever the case, we're not alone. Misery loves company, and seeking out a compassionate friend to commiserate with might be helpful. This month, we need to reaffirm our boundaries, and remember to give ourselves a little more love. We can do this through practicing gratitude, meditating, and making time for extra self care.
And now, we move forward, knowing what could be waiting for over the next 12 months. Overall, things look really good! Let's make the best of 2021.
Hail yourselves!
